The North Caucasus Federal district makes a significant contribution to overall agricultural production of Russia. Among the districts of the Russian Federation, the region occupies the 4th place in the production of vegetables and grains and the 6th place in the production of livestock and poultry meat. The share of the North Caucasus Federal district in crop production in Russia – 10%, in animal husbandry-8%. The region is the leader in Russia in viticulture – 41.3% of the all-Russian crop, and in sheep farming -39%. The district includes 7 regions (Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Osetia, Chechnya and Stavropol region). Each of them has its own specialisation and priorities of agricultural development.
